Era 3: The Mesozoic Era

  • Triassic Period (201.3 to 145.0 MYA) “Age of Reptiles” where dinosaurs emerged and diversified across land, sea, and sky 

  • The 4th mass extinction occurred on Earth wiping out 23% of animal families both on sea and land (it wasn’t as big as the Permian mass extinction or the upcoming Cretaceous) 

  • Jurassic Period (201.3 to 145.0 MYA) was known as “Golden of Dinosaurs” for example- massive herbivores and carnivores 

  • First birds emerged (oldest known fossil found left over from this era)

  • Cretaceous Period (145.0 to 66.0 MYA) the “Most Famous Mass Extinction” occurred at the end of this period wiping out 34% of animal families on Earth 

  • The remains of the Cretaceous Interior Seaway is now the Colorado River.
